Our Story
Making people feel and look their best is what inspired Kerry to open her own salon. Shear Instincts was opened in 1983 and has been serving West Islip and the surrounding areas for over 25 years. Kerry is adept in all forms of haircutting and haircoloring techniques. She prides herself on not only the dreams she has for the salon, but also her aspirations for her community.
Our Vision
To suceed while being an integral institutional member of the community. Kerry is an avid contributor to local charities and organizations. Shear Instincts organized six annual "Clip for a Cure" fund raisers. The salon raised over $20,000 for Breast Cancer Help in addition to participating annually in the Avon walk for Breast Cancer. Shear Instincts has also received a plaque from Masera Learning Center for their continuous support and encouragement to the students.

Penny, Stylist
Penny has been with Shear Instincts since opening day. Penny has been styling & coloring hair for over 28 years. Not only has she built her clientele with her talent and experience but has also made life long friends. Penny's ever-present desire for tweaking whats in front of her, is always satisfying her clients to their specific needs and wants.
Kathy, Stylist
Kathy has been practicing the art of hair since 1983 at Shear Instincts. Kathy enjoys creating a new look for her clients through her expertise in perms and up-do's.
Janine, Stylist
Janine's experience and talent is working with all hair types. She excels in styling for weddings, proms, or just that special evening out. She has a special talent to spice up her clients do, using her knowledge in hair color and highlights. She is fantastic at "listening to clients," not only giving them what they want but what looks best.
Marie, Stylist
Marie is a natural for creativity and beauty. She has a creative desire to obtain the very best to transform the way we look at ourselves. Mastering techniques in SO-Cap hair extensions, color & highlights, Brazilian blowouts, and cuts, Marie sculpts each client into her own work of art.
Kayleigh, Reception
Kayleigh started at Shear Instincts in 2010. She started as a shampoo assistant. Her specialty was making her clients feel relaxed. Kayleigh recently became a part-time receptionist. Now, her main focus is to ensure the client gets an appointment. She does her best to make sure the appointment fits the clients personal schedule and allows for the appropriate time for the best hair care.
